For the Memorial Day long weekend (May 27-29), Dennis Counts and Don Smyth will be leading a cycling tour in Victoria, BC. This will be a credit-card bike tour, so you will need panniers or other on-bike cargo accommodations for two nights in Victoria. The ride will be moderate pace.

We will meet at the Anacortes Ferry Dock on the morning of Saturday, May 27 to take the 8:30AM Ferry to Sidney, BC. Arriving in Sidney at 11:10AM, we  will take the scenic Lochside Bike Trail to the outskirts of Victoria, then follow the coastline around the eastern perimeter of Oak Bay and Victoria, ending up in James Bay, near the central Inner Harbour of Victoria. The first day’s ride is about 28 miles from the ferry.

There are many accommodation options around the Inner Harbour of Victoria. A few options within walking distance of James Bay are (by distance):

James Bay Inn: http://www.jamesbayinn.com/

Day’s Inn: http://www.daysinnvictoria.com/

Best Western: http://www.victoriabestwestern.com/

Admiral Inn: http://www.admiralinnhotel.com/

Chateau Victoria: http://www.chateauvictoria.com/

Ocean Island Inn|Backpackers|Suites: http://www.oceanisland.com/

The ride leaders will be staying in the James Bay Inn, so all three rides use that as a starting/ending point. If you decide to stay further afield, please allow time to meet the group in James Bay for the ride starts, dinners, etc. Also, please check with the venue about bike storage -- the James Bay Inn has a locked bike storage building in back.

Sunday morning we will set out to the west, riding through Esquimalt, View Royal, Langford, Colwood, Metchosin and Sooke, then looping back towards Victoria on the Galloping Goose trail. We will then head across Victoria to the University of Victoria, swing around that and then south through Victoria, back to the James Bay Inn. This route is about 57 miles, though we will also present variations for shorter (35-50 mile) rides.

Monday morning we will head out early on a 21 mile ride so we can catch the 12:05pm ferry to Anacortes. We will ride north through Victoria and Saanich towards Brentwood Bay, passing Butchart Gardens. We will then cut over to the north-east towards Sidney, hooking up with the northern part of the Lochside Trail to go back to the ferry. The ferry arrives in Anacortes at 3:00pm.

There is only one ferry a day on this route, so our timing is pretty fixed. Staying near the Inner Harbour of Victoria will leave us with many touristic and dining opportunities — it should be a load of fun!
