Glacier to Artist Point on Mt Baker Ride, August 10, Friday

Ride Description: Ride starts in the little community of Glacier on Mt Baker and climbs 4100 feet over 24 miles before we crest at Artist Point. Knock Dead Beautiful Views at Top!

When: August 10th, Friday at 10:00 AM. Biking on weekday to minimize exposure to vehicular traffic on mountain road.

Where to meet: In Glacier at Mt Baker. Glacier is along Highway 542.

Cue Sheet: None. Route is up Highway 542 from Glacier to summit and then return.

What you need: No services after you leave Glacier, including no water source. Bring plenty of water for yourself. Bring food to keep yourself fueled. Also bring clothes to keep yourself warm if it is cold/rainy at the top or on the descent. Bring extra tubes, or whatever you need to be self sufficient for a bike ride with no services.

Distance and Elevation: 49 miles round trip and 4100 feet of climbing. Artist Point is at an elevation of 5077 feet.

Pace/Regroup: Moderate or better biking capabilities needed. We will all climb and descend at our own rate but will hang together for mutual support and camaraderie. We will regroup at top before descending. At the bottom there is a deli/restaurant/ice cream shop to help us celebrate our day’s accomplishment.

Carpooling:  Glacier is about 120 miles from Seattle. Driving time around 2.5 hours. This means one should be departing Seattle 7:30 AM at the latest. Let’s car pool up there. Register for the ride so we can all see who is going. I am looking for a car pool ride!
