Sequim to Hurricane Ridge

Saturday, August 17, 2017, join us for a ride from Sequim to Hurricane Ridge, 73 miles, 6,000+ ft. of climbing, at a high moderate to low brisk pace on the flats.  The route uses a mix of back roads, a short segment of Hwy 101, and the Olympic trail. 

The details:

  • ·        For those coming from Seattle, take the 7:10 Edmonds ferry for meet up at 9 AM at Sequim High School parking lot (601 N Sequim Ave).  Ferry crossing takes about 35 minutes, drive to Sequim from Kingston is about an hour.  Sign up will be in the parking lot.  Roll out around 9:15.  To facilitate carpooling please RSVP so that all can see who is attending.  Plan on making your own carpool arrangements.
  • ·        Public restroom facilities are available on the east side of N. Sequim Ave a few blocks before high school.
  • ·        The ride starts on back roads then uses a short segment of the shoulder of HWY 101 before entering the park.  Return route will use Olympic trail and stay off Hwy 101.   Route details can be found on the attached PDF and at: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14572440
  • ·        Major regroups at park entrance (mile 18), at the top (mile 36), and at the park entrance on the way out.  Restrooms and water are available at the park entrance but no food.  The holy trinity, rest rooms, water and food, can be had at the visitor center at the top of the climb.  BYO or purchase lunch.  
  • ·        National Park entrance fees apply, $15 / rider.  Free if you can buddy up with someone with a National Park pass.  Limit three people per pass.
  • ·        Participants are expected to be self-supporting with spare tubes, pump, water, snacks, and capable of fixing their own flats.  Helmets are required on COGS rides.  Use of flashers, visual enhancers and rear view mirrors is encouraged.  Weather conditions can and will change, be prepared. Conditions at the top of the ridge can be much different than those at sea level. In addition, please also bring safe riding skills and good road manners.  Thank you.
  • Cancellation notice for rain or other reasons will be sent out the night before.  If no notice is sent, ride is a go.

NOTE: COGS Rides are limited to members and one time guest non-members. You must register to be permitted to ride. According to the club insurance policy, If you are not a COGS member then you can register and participate in one ride.
