UPDATE: Ride is canceled.  On 23AUG, I (and others) rode a recon ride for the Hansville route and discovered that the 9:35am ferry was not running.  The ticket agent indicated that the 9:35am ferry has not been running since COVID.  I know that's not true because I took the 9:35am ferry to Hansville at least twice last summer.  Unfortunately, I am canceling the ride due to the ferry time change.  Apologies.

  • The Kingston-Hansville loop is a terrific ride.  Low traffic and good roads.  For those who want more miles I am adding a before leg to the Edmonds ferry and a return leg from the ferry.
  • Kingston-Hansville loop: A clockwise loop starting in Kingston, south through Indianola and a lunch stop at the northern end of the loop in Hansville.  Hansville has a small grocery store and café with outdoor seating.
  • Greenwood to Edmonds Ferry: An optional segment of 11mi and 600ft of climbing before the Kingston-Hansville loop.  Starting at Greenwood Park we will ride up Fremont Ave, through Innis Arden and Richmond Beach. It’s as direct as I could make it.  Note: We will ride a little more than moderate on this segment to get to the ferry on time.
  • Edmonds to Greenwood: An optional segment of 12mi and 800ft of climbing after the Kingston-Hansville loop. 450ft of climbing in the first 3 miles as we climb out of the Edmonds.  I did my best to smooth that out.  We will make a bee line to the Interurban Trail (mostly to avoid Innis Arden after riding all day) and then it is mostly flat or downhill from there.
  • You can join the ride at Greenwood Park or Edmonds Ferry.
  • Sign In | Full ride (62 miles): 7:50am at Greenwood Park.  Depart at 8:00am.  This should provide plenty time to get to the ferry and get tickets.
  • Sign In | Kingston-Hansville Only (38 miles): Will be on the 9:35am ferry.  Arrive early enough to find parking, ride to ferry, and acquire your ticket.  Areas around the ferry, waterfront and downtown Edmonds core have time limited parking restrictions.  Park outside this zone.
  • Participants are expected to be self-supporting with spare tubes, pump, water, snacks, and capable of fixing their own flats.  Helmets are required on COGS rides.  Use of flashers, visual enhancers and rear view mirrors is encouraged.  Weather conditions can and will change, be prepared. In addition, please also bring safe riding skills and good road manners.  Thank you.
  • Cancellation notice for rain, smoke, fire, ice, or insurrection will be sent out no later than 7 AM the morning of the ride.

the small print

COGS rides are now open to both members and non-members. Non-members are limited to one “free” ride with the club, after which COGS’ insurance requires they become a member. All persons must register. The number of persons allowed on a ride is left to the discretion of the ride leader.

COVID still remains a dominant health issue for our society. COGS riders are required to follow all state and county health guidelines to protect themselves and others. Regardless of vaccine status, all participants should be healthy and symptom free of COVID or any flu like symptoms. For more information, please see: Riding with COGS Protocols.

NOTE: COGS Rides are limited to members and one time guest non-members. You must register to be permitted to ride. According to the club insurance policy, If you are not a COGS member then you can register and participate in one ride.
