Let's ride Olallie Trail before the snow flies and we can still enjoy autumn colors. This is a physically challenging out and back mountain bike ride that starts and ends at the Palouse to Cascade trailhead at Rattlesnake Lake. The trail is a well-maintained multi-use trail with lots of switchbacks but not technically demanding. Turn back at any point on the route; there are several viewpoints on the route to the top where you can rest, enjoy the view and decide about the next leg to the top. The far end has a spectacular view of the Cedar River Watershed and old growth forest. The descent is fast and flowy with banked turns and it is a real joy to ride.
Park on the state parking lot with a discover pass, or park free at the adjacent City of Seattle owned lots. I will meet you by the latrine/trailhead area in the state parking lot. You can join me for breakfast at the Issaquah Cafe on the way out I-90 if you like - just let me know.
Bring lots of water, snacks, and whatever you need in case of a flat tire or mechanical problem. A map is not necessary - it's a straightforward out and back trail ride. I recommend a bike with suspension, especially if you're going all the way to the end - but it could be done on a gravel bike with 40 mm tires if you have the skillset and/or if you don't mind some hike-a-bike sections.
COGS rides are now open to both members and non-members. Non-members are limited to one “free” ride with the club, after which COGS’ insurance requires they become a member. All persons must register. The number of persons allowed on a ride is left to the discretion of the ride leader.
COVID remains a public health concern and COGS will continue to follow state and county health guidelines. Regardless of vaccine status, all participants should be free of COVID or flu-like symptoms before participating in any rides, tours, and social events.
