Our dear friend Tom Schaefer was famous for doing at least one century ride every month. Year round.  Here is a ride where we can honor Tom with a group century ride.

The route this year was inspired by a ride I did with Tom many many years ago. He loved the Green River Gorge area as well as stopping at the Black Diamond Bakery.  We start by riding around the north end of Lake Washington on the Burke-Gillman and then the Sammamish River trail to Redmond.  From there we take the newly completed East Lake Sammamish trail to Issaquah.

Thus the first 30 miles are easy and flat. Kind of freebie miles.  After Issaquah we get on roads and some hills heading south past the Cedar River and towards the Green River Gorge and Black Diamond.

After Black Diamond we start heading back north by getting over to the Soos Creek Trail and eventually to Renton.  From there we take a conventional Lake Washington Loop Route back to the start.

Magnuson Park (Magnuson Café and Brewery):  We will start together at 7:30am sharp.  A 100+ miles century ride makes for a very long day.  It is highly likely that the ride will split into multiple groups as we proceed.  Be prepared to navigate on your own.  Be prepared to fix flat tires on your own.

For Coffee folks:

Issaquah Coffee Company (mile 30)

Lunch/Early-afternoon Food Stop:

Black Diamond Bakery & Restaurant (mile 60)

Share a meal after the ride @ 6:00pm: The century riders will complete the ride at approximately 6:00pm (plus or minus 30 minutes).  Please stop by and have a meal with us at the Magnuson Café & Brewery.

For fewer miles #1:

Tom Schaefer Metric Century Down South (66.3 miles/106 km 2,406')

This Metric Century Version of the route goes from Issaquah to May Valley and back to Lake Washington.  May Valley was also a favorite riding area for Tom and we rode there many times together.

For fewer miles #2: tbd

Let me know if you are interested in a shorter version route.  The one option is to head back along the I-90 trail from Issaquah.
